MARINE ENGINE MOUNTS R & D MARINE
R & D MARINE ENGINE MOUNTS
R & D Marine was started in 1973 after several years of development work, to manufacture a flexible shaft coupling suitable for marine use, which was both easy to fit and competitively priced. The company was started in a single garage moving to two garages after one year and then to its current location in 1976. Over the years, the factory has been completely rebuilt and now has 8000 square feet of modern factory space with all manufacturing being carried out on CNC machines.
The R & D Marine Engine Mounts are designed specifically for the rigors of marine applications. The mounts are stiff enough to absorb forward and reverse propeller thrust, yet soft enough to isolate drivetrain vibrations from the hull.To help increase the longevity of the mounts, all steel parts are zinc plated and pasivated to limit corrosion. The rubber component is covered by an oil shield to protect it from petroleum based products.R & D Marine mounts are preloaded based on the combined engine and transmission weight to limit engine movement. To facilitate in the ease of installation the mounts are height adjusting and the mounting holes in the base of the mount are slotted to assist in alignment of the drivetrain.
R & D Marine has developed a comprehensive range of fail safe competitively priced Engine Mountings to fit all major installations for boats, sailboats and various marine applications.Shear engine mounts for boats mountings are available where good isolation is required and compression boat/marine engine mounts where there is a restriction on the available space.Installation is made as quick and easy as possible with slotted holes and height adjusting studs to simplify alignment.

Engine model no. can help in confirming fitment of the engine mount. 5. Yanmar engine mounts are usually selected based on the engine model no.Information can be provided to us via email or phone call. 6. Yanmar Engine mounts Y 75, Y100, Y150, Y200 are available. 7. Yanmar mounts Y50 and Y70 are also available. Please download brochure for technical details.
MARINE ENGINE MOUNTS FOR YANMAR
- Define the total weight of the engine and the transmission.
- Determine 60% of the total weight and then divide by 2 to determine the capacity of each of the rear mounts (the mounts on the tranmission side of the engine).
- Determine 40% of the total weight and then divide by 2 to determine the capacity of each of the front mounts (the mounts opposite the tranmission side of the engine).
- Determine the stud necessary stud diameter and footprint of the mount.
- Choose mount most appropriately sized for the per mount weight. When possible, choose the mount nearest the middle of the weight range.
Example:
- Engine weight is 480lbs., transmission weight is 110lbs., footprint is 4", stud diameter is 5/8".
- Total weight is 590lbs.
- 590 x .6 / 2 = 177 lbs per rear mount. Mounts required are 800-010
- 590 x .4 / 2 = 118 lbs per rear mount. Mounts required are 800-037
- Why R&D Marine Engine Mounts?
- Designed for marine use, accepts propeller and engine thrust in both directions
- Offers a fail safe design
- R & D Marine Mounts are height adjustable
- Pre-loaded to reduce movement
- Slotted holes in base to assist in alignment
- Mount types to fit all applications

R & D Marine Engine Mountings
How to select (details required)
1. Engine type, number of cylinders2. Type of gearbox and reduction ratio3. Weight of engine and gearbox combined by weighing or manufacturers literature
Weight on each front mount = W x b / 2 x (a + b)
4. Is flywheel in conventional place between the engine and gearbox5. Position of engine mounting points6. Find centre of gravity by balancing on a roller (if possible)
7. If Centre of Gravity cannot be found, assume weight distribution of 60% on rear mounts, with 40% on front mounts. (if rear mount is in line with flywheel).
ExampleTotal weight of engine and gearbox = 1200lbsDistance a (balace point to front mount) = 17 inches
Distance b (balance point to rear mount) = 14 inches
Installation Details
Maximum clearance between the underside of the height adjusting nut and top washer must not be more than 10mm. If more height is required use a spacer under the mounting casting. This applies to all mountings in the R & D Marine Range.
